"What makes Coyote appealing, despite his character
flaws?"
Coyote’s
character flaws are what makes him so appealing. He started out the story by
abusing the skull of Buffalo Bull, which was rather pointless but it helped him
get out his pent-up anger with the larger creature. Even though he was
rightfully being chased by the reincarnated buffalo, coyote’s rebellious nature
had you rooting for him. After helping Buffalo Bull form new horns and defeat
his enemy, Coyote seems like he’s changed his character, to the point where
Buffalo Bull trusts him with the youngest cow. Unfortunately, Coyote ignores the
readers’ pleas for peace and kills the cow. In the end, he is tricked by the
old woman and gets what he deserves, but the reader still is sympathetic
towards the creature. Why? People love a good villain, someone so terrible yet
intriguing you have to just root for them. Because goodness is so heavily
promoted in our society, bad characters
